2016 marked two special occasions for Eastern Shore Community College. As a member of the Virginia Community College System, ESCC joined in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the 23 community colleges of the Commonwealth. Since the creation of the Virginia Community College System in 1966, more than 2.6 million individuals have enrolled and more than 575,000 degrees and credentials have been awarded.
On the evening of Oct. 15th, a packed house of 470 supporters gathered at the Richmond Marriott to celebrate the golden anniversary. The Eastern Shore Community College delegation attending the event included Dr. Linda Thomas-Glover, president of ESCC and her husband Rodney, also Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Bloxom Sr., Mr. David Landsberger, and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Johnsen.
The VCCS 50th Gala was followed on October 28th, by a local acknowledgement of the 45th Anniversary of ESCC. Current and former staff and faculty joined college board and foundation members, past and present, in an evening that celebrated the many ways the college has impacted the Shore and its residents, and the excitement surrounding the future groundbreaking for a new main building. Dr. Glover also announced the public phase of the college’s second major gifts campaign which has raised $1.6 million of the $2 million goal.
ESCC thanks the many people who have played a role in the last 45 years, and to those who are paving the way in assisting the institution to continue to the mission of being an innovative, learning-centered community college recognized as a leader in education and as a vital link in the economic and cultural enrichment of our communities.
