Student Update 5/12
05/12/2020
from Dr. Patrick Tompkins, VP
Dear Your Eastern Shore Students,
YOU DID IT!
Congratulations on finishing up the spring semester under trying conditions.
GRADUATION
We have a committee planning a graduation ceremony for late summer. Meantime, we will mail degrees out near the end of May. Congratulations to all of our graduates! Especially this year!
YES! WE WILL BE SENDING CASH TO STUDENTS SOON
The federal CARES act provides funding for some students who received Pell grants in the spring and took at least one class on-campus. We are waiting for the funds to arrive from the government, and we are identifying which students will be eligible by law.
We expect to distribute funds in the next 2-3 weeks.
Your information must be current in our records. Here’s how to check and update it: MyESCC > SIS > Student Center > Campus Personal Information. Then update your physical address, phone numbers, and personal email address.
PLAN FOR “I” GRADE CLASSES
If you were in a welding or healthcare class that we had to put on pause, we are developing plans for you to complete the class this summer. We will follow the governor’s directives about when and how we can deliver instruction.
Please continue to check ESCC Alert and email. Please make sure your contact information is current in MYESCC so we can reach you by text, phone, and alternate email addresses. MyESCC > SIS > Student Center > Campus Personal Information.
PLANS FOR SUMMER CLASSES
We will continue with remote instruction in the summer, including ensuring that all students have access to live contact with the instructor each week through Zoom, chat, phone, apps, or other means.
We hope to bring our microbiology and healthcare classes on-campus for part of the summer. Your instructor will work with you on those arrangements.
Please be sure to register. If you need assistance, you can contact your faculty advisor or our lead advisor, Sheryl Williamson:swilliamson@es.vccs.edu.
PLANS FOR FALL CLASSES
We have a full slate of classes for both 8-week sessions in the fall. We hope we will be back on campus, but it is too early to know. If we are able to open later in the fall, our 8-week session format will allow you to take on-campus classes for the second session.
Please be sure to register. If you need assistance, you can contact your faculty advisor or our lead advisor, Sheryl Williamson:swilliamson@es.vccs.edu.
YES! WE HAVE A SCHOLARSHIP FOR VIRTUALLY EVERY STUDENT.
First, we encourage you to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) so you can receive federal and state financial aid.
Second, apply for an ESCC Foundation Scholarship. The deadline has been extended to July 15, 2020. Scholarships will be awarded on a first come, first serve basis. Complete it today, do not delay!
Third apply for a Virginia Foundation for Community College Education Scholarship. The deadline has been extended to June 1.
