Medical Scribe Apprentice Course Coming in 2020

11/24/2019

Eastern Shore Community College Workforce Development Services has been approved to offer the Apprentice Medical Scribe Program, and is happy to announce the first class will begin February 4th, 2020. For those looking to enter the Health Professional field, or to expand their existing medical professional knowledge base, Medical Scribe certification is a great option.

“Approval to offer the Apprentice Medical Scribe Program is a big step for ESCC,” said Dr. Jim Shaeffer, President Eastern Shore Community College.  “Health Care is expected to be one of the fastest growing business sectors for a long time, and the more learning opportunities we can provide our community, the more competitive we will be in attracting health care innovators.”

Medical Scribes are in high demand, as health care providers increase their focus on delivering best possible care for their patients.  Medical Scribes essentially serve as a personal assistant to the physician, documenting patient visits to Emergency and Examination Rooms.  Trained in Health Information Management, Scribes gather information from the visit and enter it “real time” into the proper electronic health records systems.

Annual salaries on the Eastern Shore average close to $32,000 (depending on experience and location), with plenty of opportunities for advancement.

Course price is $895 per student, with financial aid and FastForward Career Coaching available.  A high school diploma or GED is required for the program.

The course will run through May 21, 2020. For more details on the availability of FastForward aid, please contact Barb Rang at 757-789-1745.  For general course information or questions call 757-789-7979.
