ESCC Welcomes New VP of Academics, Workforce and Student Programs

Dr. Patrick Tompkins has accepted the position of Vice President for Academics, Workforce and Student Programs at Eastern Shore Community College in Melfa.  Tompkins most recently has overseen the Historic Triangle Campus of Thomas Nelson Community College in Williamsburg, Virginia as Provost.

Dr. Tompkins’ graduate degrees are from Old Dominion University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and Iowa State University.  His concentrations have been in English, Creative Writing, and Community College Leadership. His experiences in academic affairs consist of collaborations with numerous higher education institutions.  In addition, Dr. Tompkins has been involved with workforce development activities with several agencies.  His teaching experience includes twenty years as Associate Professor, Department of English, at John Tyler Community College. 

ESCC President, Dr. Jim Shaeffer commented, “We feel most fortunate to have Dr. Tompkins join our team at such an important time. Not only with the opening of a new Academic Building, but also with adding important new curriculum for our students. We welcome his talents at ESCC as we begin this new chapter.”

Tompkins will be arrive on campus at ESCC full-time in November.
