ESCC Returning to Wallops Island this Fall!
Category: College08/26/2014
Eastern Shore Community College will offer a freshman English Composition (ENG 111) class on Wallops Island this fall. The class will be offered each from 6 to 9 each Tuesday evening, beginning September 16, through December 16. The class will be held at the Lockheed Martin Technical Services Building at 8208 Salyer Drive, Wallops Island.
This course will introduce students to critical thinking and the fundamentals of academic writing. Through the writing process, students will refine topics; develop and support ideas; investigate, evaluate, and incorporate appropriate resources; edit for effective style and usage; and determine appropriate approaches for a variety of contexts, audiences, and purposes.
The instructor is Patricia Bell. Ms. Bell teaches English at Arcadia High School. She has a BA in English from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a MA in English from Queens College.
Eastern Shore Community College President, Dr. Linda Thomas-Glover explains, “The college had its beginning at Wallops Island in the early 1970s. We recognize the importance of the continued growth of the Wallops Island area with the Orbital International Space Station Resupply Mission, the research on unmanned aerial vehicles, and the recent report of interest in conducting manned spaceflight missions from Wallops Space Flight Facility to the economic health of the Delmarva Peninsula. With the prospect of rapid growth in Northern Accomack County, ESCC anticipates this course will be the beginning of an expanded list of course offerings in the area.”
The last day to register is Friday, September 12. High school dual enrollment students are welcome. For more information or to be added to a mailing list for future Wallops Island course offerings, please contact Laurie Swain at 757-789-1797 or lswain@es.vccs.edu.
