April 2018 was an eventful month for the ESCC Chapter of Phi-Theta-Kappa. Chapter Advisor Robin Rich-Coates and members Crystal Roughton and Jorge Morales attended the Catalyst 2018 Annual Convention in Kansas City, MO, April 18-21. This convention marked the 100th Anniversary of Phi Theta Kappa.
At the convention, ESCC PTK was honored for Distinguished Chapter Officer Team, consisting of Daniel Elliott, Crystal Roughton, Alexandra Marshall, Hayley Marshall, Jada Smith, Amanda Hemphill. The chapter was also recognized for Distinguished Honors in Action Project Award (Human Trafficking), Top 100 Chapters, Regional Coordinator Distinguished Service Award (Robin Rich-Coates), Advisor Emeritus (Robin Rich-Coates), REACH Chapter (Membership Development), and the designation of being a Five-Star Chapter.
On the same day as the Annual PTK Convention began in Kansas City, two ESCC students were in Richmond being honored as members of the All-Virginia Academic Team. Each year the college president nominates two outstanding students for the All-USA Academic Team. Then an All-Virginia team is created from the list. Those two students are Crystal Roughton and Daniel Elliott.
Both were honored at a luncheon on April 18th, attended by VCCS College Presidents and the Chancellor, Dr. Glenn DuBois. ESCC President, Dr. Billy Greer was on hand to present a biography of Crystal and Daniel, as they were given medallions by the Chancellor.
