Eligible Learners Can Earn CNA Certification FREE

Your Eastern Shore Community College is now providing the opportunity for eligible learners to earn their CNA certification at no cost, plus receive a $1,000 award from the Virginia Ready Scholars Program.
This special program is recruiting now, with an orientation session the week of October 12-16; classes in Healthcare Fundamentals will begin October 19 and meet through December 16. Nurse Aide classes will be held January 11 through May 12. Upon completion, students will be prepared to take and pass the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program’s (NNAAP) Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) exam, which will earn them the certification necessary to begin work as a professional Certified Nurse Aide and receive the $1,000 VA Ready Scholars Award.
At the end of the entire program, learners will receive:
- Training in financial literacy and well-being
- A Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate
- A GED Certificate (if not previously earned)
- ACT National Career Readiness Certificate in workplace skills
- Fundamentals in Healthcare course completion certificate
- Training and coaching to earn the national CNA certification
- Guaranteed informational interview with Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital
- A $1,000 VA Ready Scholars Award
To be eligible:
- Virginia resident
- TANF recipient, or family income below 200% of the federal poverty level
- Grade equivalency of 9th grade or higher
- GED/High School equivalency, or completed by 12/18/20
- Complete interview with program leadership team
- Successful background check
In addition to covering all tuition costs, the program will provide:
- Nursing Assistant Student uniforms and textbooks
- Financial assistance for transportation and child care
- Free coaching to help with completing the program and finding employment
- Access to laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots
- Internship placement
- Financial literacy training
