Connelly Leads ESCC Welding And Industrial Tech ProgramCategory: Academics
Welding, the joining of two or more materials through heat or heat and pressure, is widely used in construction, manufacturing, and many other industries, making it a critical skill that will always be in demand. High-tech manufacturing that uses advanced technology and newly developed material is also creating more need than ever for a highly educated welding workforce with expanding employment opportunities.
A welding certification from ESCC can help you begin a career that can lead to financial security, career advancement and important work opportunities, not only on the Shore but in other areas both in the US and around the world.
As we approach the beginning of the 2016 Fall Semester, ESCC welcomes our new welding instructor, Travis Connelly, who is himself, a product of the program. Originally from East Hampton, New York, Travis has been on the Shore since 2003, and has amassed considerable experience in construction, (industrial and marine), in addition to starting his own local business with the skills learned at ESCC. Not only leading welding instruction, Travis will also oversee the Industrial Technology Program.
ESCC’s Industrial Technology Program prepares students to be high-skilled, multi-craft technicians who can work in a variety of industrial and commercial settings from manufacturing to aerospace. The broad-based interdisciplinary curriculum includes safety, schematics, mechanical diagrams, and welding. The types of machinery and equipment used in industrial and commercial facilities and operations involve electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical devices as well as programmable logic controlled and heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems.
Program graduates have gone to work for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS), Tyson Foods, Bayshore Concrete, and Perdue Farms. A number of these students participated in the College’s internship program, and many of them earned valuable industry credentials while at ESCC. To learn more about ESCC’s Industrial Technology Program, visit the college website at es.vccs.edu, or contact program advisor, Travis Connelly at 757-789-1769. Fall Classes begin August 18th.
