Eastern Shore Community College’s Practical Nursing program has been ranked #8 in the top 20 LPN programs in the Commonwealth by the website practicalnursing.org. LPN programs were assessed on several factors which represent how well a program supports students towards licensure and beyond. Past and present NCLEX-PN “pass-rates” were analyzed and weighted by year.
There are 52 Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) programs in the state.  At Eastern Shore Community College, practical nursing students are prepared for becoming practitioners for a career as a LPN with the knowledge and skills to care for clients of all age groups and function as contributing members of the health care team in a variety of health service facilities.

The ESCC program is led by Director Linda Pruitt, who commented that “the PN faculty are very excited to achieve a rating of 8th out of 52 LPN programs in Virginia.  It truly is a team effort on the part of the PN faculty to provide a high quality nursing education to our PN students.  We are very proud that our students readily obtain jobs in a variety of healthcare facilities providing for the healthcare needs of our Eastern Shore community.  We regularly receive positive feedback from employers regarding our students and as a faculty, we consistently seek means to maintain and improve high quality outcomes in our PN program.”

Virginia strives to provide safe patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards, and educating the public about quality care. To become a licensed practical nurse (LPN) in Virginia, applicants must apply by exam or endorsement. Predictions for the state of Virginia made by The Bureau of Labor Statistics show a 21% increase in LPN jobs expected by 2024.
