Phi Theta Kappa is an honor society for two-year college students worldwide. At Eastern Shore Community College the chapter is one of the smallest in Virginia and in the nation. However, that does not keep it from being an award-winning chapter. Recently at the Virginia/West Virginia Regional Convention, the chapter was named a Distinguished Chapter and a Five-Star Chapter, the highest level possible.  In addition, the chapter won awards for its College Project and its Honors in Action Project as well as Fundraising, Commit to Complete, and Conquering Cancer projects.
Individual awards were won by Brittany Savage (Outstanding Officer), Tysheka Finney (Distinguished Member), Kirstin Gray (Outstanding Regional Officer), and Joshua Taylor (Paragon Award for New Advisors). The chapter officers were named as an Outstanding Officer Team.

The convention was held at Northern Virginia Community College on the Annandale Campus from March 4-6, 2016.  During the convention the chapter was also recognized for its time and efforts serving as co-host for the convention. Robin Rich-Coates, Chapter Advisor, was invited to present on the new Honors Study Topic, “How the World Works: Global Perspectives.”

In addition, Ms. Rich-Coates was featured in the most recent edition of Visionary, the PTK Foundation’s magazine.  The article, entitled “Fostering Advisor Success”, gave Ms. Rich-Coates the opportunity to discuss focusing on a way to widen the network of resources available to other advisors through the establishment of a Visiting Advisor Scholar Program.
