Alpha Pi Chi Wins Awards at Regional PTK Convention

MELFA, VA – The Virginia/West Virginia Phi Theta Kappa Regional Convention was held at Tidewater Community College in Chesapeake March 6-8, 2015. A total of 101 members from 22 chapters attended the Convention. Students, Kirstin Gray, Javona Bibbins, Josh Taylor, and Jennifer Canas and Chapter Advisor, Robin Rich-Coates represented Eastern Shore Community College.
The ESCC Alpha Pi Chi Chapter won the following awards:
Distinguished Chapter
Five Star Level Chapter (15th consecutive year!)
Commit to Complete – First Place
Relay for Life – Third Place
Fundraising – First Place
Regional Honors in Action Project – First Place
Cohost Chapter Recognition for the Hospitality Suite at Regional Convention
Kirstin Gray and Josh Taylor were recognized as Distinguished Chapter Officers and Brooke LeCato was recognized as a Distinguished Chapter Member. Kirstin Gray was also elected Regional Officer for 2015-2016 Honors Chair.
Robin Rich-Coates, who serves as the local chapter advisor and associate regional coordinator said “I am proud of the students and their accomplishments. They have worked so hard to achieve excellence in academics, leadership and service to their communities.”
Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society is the largest honor society in higher education with 1,285 chapters on college campuses in all 50 of the United States, plus Canada, Germany, the Republic of Palau, Peru, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, the British Virgin Islands, the United Arab Emirates and U.S. territorial possessions. Nearly 3 million students have been inducted since its founding in 1918, with approximately 134,000 students inducted annually.
The college’s Alpha Phi Chi Chapter was established in 1990, and has been a Five-Star Chapter (the highest level of achievement) for the past 15 years. Participation in the society provides opportunities for leadership, service and fellowship.
