Online Courses for Individuals

ESCC has links with four organizations through which it offers a wide range of online courses for individuals, both work related and for personal enrichment.

ed2go

Unless otherwise specified, the majority of courses run for six weeks and cost $95. For these, you will be granted access to two lessons each week for six weeks. Each lesson will be accompanied by a short, multiple-choice quiz, and some lessons may also include a hands-on assignment. You are expected to try and complete each quiz and assignment within two weeks from when the lesson is released. The course will conclude with a final exam. You will have two weeks from the day the final exam is released to complete your studies and submit the final exam for evaluation. All instructors are qualified and experienced and you can view their resumes online. Check the ed2go website.

ProTrain

Workforce Development Services Division ESCC in partnership with Protrain Online is your solution for Green/Renewable Energy and Allied Healthcare training with programs such as:

UGotClass

Courses offered through UGotClass were developed by LERN® – Learning Resources Network – and are accessible 24/7 and last between one and two months. These courses apply to:

  • Businesses interested in learning about eMarketing, mobile marketing, teleworking, social media, video marketing, webinars, Google analytics, cyber security
  • Entrepreneurs and new businesses looking for government contracting, practical math and a business plan
  • Teachers interested in online teaching, students with Aspergers, gender issues, social media and online tools, generational learning styles. Courses can be turned into qualifying credit hours from the University of South Dakota.
  • Non-profits interested in program evaluation and revenue generation
  • Dementia care

Note that these courses each start on a specific date, so check the dates carefully. If you’re unable to take the course you want on the dates specified, check back later when new dates will be posted. Certificate classes are groups of two or three classes offered at a discount. Except for the “Webinar Planner”, courses within the Certificate can be taken individually. When you’ve decided on the course you want, download, print, complete and mail the UGotClass application - together with the fee – to the college (ESCC, Workforce Development Services, 29300 Lankford Hwy., Melfa, VA  23410). 1.    After you register, you will be given a web address to go to get into your online classroom.  You will have a password and use your email address and password to gain access. Once inside the online classroom, here’s what you can expect: 2.    Participate when you want:  You can participate any time of day or evening. The online classroom is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are no live real-time requirements or meetings. You decide when you participate. For the best learning, participants should log into the course on 2-3 different days of the week. 3.    What you will do: For each Unit, you will… i.    Read the print readings (about 20 pages a week) ii.    Have the option of accessing the online readings iii.    Listen to the audio presentation for the Unit and view the slides iv.    Have the option of taking a self-quiz to see how much you have learned v.    Engage in written online discussion with your instructor and other participants vi.    For best learning, you should make one or more comments at 2-3 different times each week. The content (readings, audio lectures, slides) and self quizzes are accessible for the entire course, so you can work ahead, or go back and review again, at your convenience. 4.    Discussion: The Discussion for each Unit lasts one week. All comments are made in writing and can be made at any time of the day or night. Your instructor will log into the Discussion area at least once a day and answer questions, make comments, and respond to comments by you and the other participants. We encourage you to make 2-3 comments each week to maximize your learning and enjoyment of the course. Click on the logo below to get started…
