Coastal Conservation Technician

The Nature Conservancy is seeking applications for a spring/summer Coastal Conservation Technician to assist science and conservation staff with programs at the Volgenau Virginia Coast Reserve. Camp Counselor Duties and Responsibilities

New Ravenna/Exmore – Water Jet Operator

Our Water Jet operators are critical in their detail to quality, alignment and production capacity with marble, glass and metals. Your duties will consist of cutting materials on the Water Jet machine with the use of computer technology to aid you in the design cuts. You will be responsible for receiving material, checking material for quality, quantity, color, and finish before starting each job. After placing material on the machine you will engage the computer program to begin cutting. It is critical that the cutting is monitored closely for clean cutting and that the water jet heads are cutting properly. You will participate in the maintenance and clean-up of the machine on a daily basis. 

You will be standing most of your shift and working in wet conditions. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as hearing protection. You will be expected to keep your work areas clean and organized. You must be a self-starter and a self-managed person. Must be aware of all safety guidelines and be able to strictly follow them. Must know when to stop a job due to material issues and when to delay a job due to material or work order issues. You will be expected to communicate clearly and timely with your supervisor and co-workers.

Responsibilities of this job: 

Pull marble as requested in writing via a pull list, blue flag, sample pull list, etc. 

Deliver marble to the appropriate preparation department. 

Keep the warehouse and your work cart organized and clean on a daily basis. 

Sorting and placing marble or materials on racks according to predetermined sequence such as size, type, color, or product code. 

Documenting and keeping accurate counts of all material taken out of the warehouse and all material brought into the warehouse. 

Label crates with identifying information. 

Assist other departments as needed and as directed by the Warehouse Manager. 

Participation in Year End Inventory as well as Cycle counts throughout the year. **Year End Inventory is mandatory 

When identifying an inventory discrepancy or problem, report this to the Warehouse Manager in writing. 

Driving the forklift and/or company truck as needed to unload, load and/or deliver material. 

Complete forklift certification prior to forklift operation. 

Communicate clearly, accurately, respectfully with your fellow employees.

New Ravenna/Exmore- Field Tile Apprentice Position

We are searching for a full-time Field Tile Apprentice in our field tile department. You will begin the collaborative process of creating works of art by learning the processes in creating mosaic masterpieces, both simple and complex, from basic basket weave patterns to complicated custom artistic floors and walls. Your role is critical to our team’s success and our customer’s satisfaction and adoration of their hand-made mosaic surfaces. An Apprentice will start in the field tile area learning how to use both hands by developing hand/eye coordination and physical dexterity. 


  • • Work on a variety of field tile, water jet and more intricate mosaic projects. 
  • • Be paid by the piece and learn how to attain piece rate and maintain or exceed piece rates by goal setting within thirty days. 
  • • Learn how to properly read a purchase order and a work order as well as double check your materials for accuracy against the work order. 
  • • Learn how to read “Work Instructions” 
  • • Be able to measure correctly and accurately by using a ruler or tape measure. 
  • • Learn placement, spacing, taping and cutting techniques. 
  • • Develop the ability to switch from one project to another. 
  • • Learn how to mix all the same color material together before starting a project, ensuring consistent color throughout. 
  • • Gradually learn the art of using nippers so as not to harm or cause pain in the hands. 
  • • Learn how to recognize names, colors, sizes and finishes of glass and stone. 
  • • Learn how to clean up after each project and at days end. You are required to sweep your floor area daily before leaving. 
  • • Learn how to accurately complete a time sheet. 
  • • Learn by asking, listening and being shown techniques by an Apprentice Trainer and other Mosaic Artists.

Duties and Responsibilities
