Administrative and Marketing Coordinator at Northampton Chamber of Commerce

General Summary: The Administrative and Marketing Coordinator serves as a point of contact and link between the Board of Directors, members, and external parties. He/she will be responsible for advancing the Chamber’s mission to advocate for and advertise members, as well as contributing to the continued success of the Northampton County Chamber of Commerce. The Administrative and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the existing operations of the Chamber, as well as developing, promoting, and executing marketing plans, communicating effectively with the membership on needs, ideas, and opportunities, and handling administrative tasks to include light bookkeeping. Develops and implements an annual marketing and organizational plan that advances the general welfare and prosperity of the Northampton County Chamber and membership. The Administrative and Marketing Coordinator is enthusiastic, creative, well organized, and an excellent communicator capable of functioning well in an independent environment. 

Public Relations – Responsible for the reputation of the Chamber of Commerce within the community and greater area and is the chief salesperson for the organization and all media contact. Responsible for building and maintaining positive relationships with all media outlets in the area and utilize every opportunity presented to further the mission of the Chamber. 

Duties and Responsibilities

Board Relations – Build and maintain strong relationships and communications with the Board of Directors. Provide leadership to garner full engagement of board members. Plan and organize committee and board meetings, and coordinate plans and agendas for these meetings. 

Membership Relations – Development and retention of current and future membership prospects. Keep consistent, strong lines of communication open between all parties, with special emphasis on member input and feedback, congenial and timely visitor interactions, and community tourism related groups and individuals. Facilitate, oversee, and implement annual membership campaign, member visits, and new member welcomes as necessary. Work effectively with memberships and their businesses that they represent. Analyze and interpret the needs of members and recommend revisions to increase membership value, engagement, and financial support. 

Administrative – Maintain files and records so they remain updated and easily accessible (to include the membership directory). Undertake basic bookkeeping tasks and issue invoices, checks, etc. Prepare agendas for monthly Board meetings as well as take meeting minutes at monthly meetings.

Marketing – Create advertising and marketing materials as necessary to showcase members and increase member value. Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (January 2021)

Work Description: 
The Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources is looking for a seasonal waterbird technician from May 1 – August 15, 2021. The successful candidate will travel by boat daily to undeveloped barrier islands, seaside marshes and the Chesapeake Bay with staff to collect data and monitor breeding populations of federally threatened piping plovers, state threatened Wilson’s plovers, American oystercatchers and colonial nesting waterbirds. Applicant must be comfortable working on a boat and walking up to 10 miles per day. Duties will include plover, oystercatcher, tern and black skimmer surveys including nest searches, behavioral observations, nest/brood monitoring, predator track monitoring, data entry and public outreach. The successful applicant may have the opportunity to participate in other cooperating agency studies such as marine mammal and sea turtle stranding data collection, and seabird nest management activities at various urban locations in the Virginia Beach/Hampton Roads area.

Required Background and Skills:

  • A recent college graduate or current student in Wildlife Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management, or a related field.  
  • Must have good oral communication and writing skills; must be able to work independently and with others; must have good observational skills. 
  • Must be comfortable around water, working on a boat, and working in remote locations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.  Schedule flexibility (8 to 12 hours daily) including some weekends.

Desired Background and skills:

  • Experience working with shorebirds, wading birds, and seabirds and/or a background in ornithology, or general biology. 
  • Ability to record detailed observations. 
  • GPS and/or GIS experience; familiarity with Microsoft Office software.
  • Ability to walk in difficult terrain for long distances (10 miles per day), carry equipment (30 lbs.), tolerate biting insects and extreme temperatures.
  • Candidates with boating experience are preferred.

Transportation: 

A personal vehicle is required for daily travel to boat ramp meeting locations (1-25 miles) although every effort will be made to coordinate travel to minimize personal mileage expenses.

Work Area Description:

The Eastern Shore of Virginia is a rural area with many opportunities for birding, kayaking, nature walks and shopping and dining in small towns and villages. There is limited access to mainstream amenities but essentials such as grocery stores, hardware stores and department stores (i.e., Walmart) are readily accessible. The Virginia Beach/Norfolk area and Pocomoke, Maryland offer most shopping and entertainment conveniences and are within a reasonable driving distance. Study sites are remote and most are accessible by boat only.  These sites offer some of the best opportunities for studying and observing coastal wildlife on the U.S. east coast. Summers months are very hot and humid and biting insects are plentiful.

Hourly Pay: $13.50

Bindary Operator Waterford Printing (January 2021)

Bindery Operator / General Office Worker. High school education or equivalent, competent reading, writing and basic math skills. Must be able to stand on feet for prolonged periods of time and be able to lift packages and cartons. Previous experience at a printing facility is a plus but is not required.

Full-timePay: $10.00 – $15.00 per hour. Benefits:Dental insurance/Health insurance. Paid time off. Schedule:8 hour shift. COVID-19 considerations: All customers must wear a mask. We also ask that customers practice social distancing allowing only 1 customer in the front area at a time.
