Crematory Operator at Doughty Funeral Home in Exmore

Doughty Funeral Homes and Crematory, located on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in the towns of Exmore and Cape Charles, has been serving families for over sixty-five years. We are looking for a dual crematory operator for our human and pet cremation services. We operate and own our human and pet retorts.  

The Human/Pet Crematory Operator is responsible for respectfully handling and processing human remains and pet remains in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations. This role involves ensuring that cremated remains are returned to authorized individuals and pet ashes back to their families and maintaining compliance with all relevant licensing and safety standards. 

 Responsibilities 

• Respectfully cares for the deceased and pets while performing all tasks involved in the cremation process. 

 • Receives remains and ensures all documentation is complete and visual identification of the deceased is accurate. 

 • Completes all required documentation related to the cremation process and equipment maintenance. 

 • Adheres to all professional, municipal, state/provincial, and federal regulations applicable to the cremation of human remains. 

 • Maintains all company logs/reports and required state-specific reports. 

 • Maintains all chain of custody paperwork. 

 • Promotes a safe work environment by practicing universal precautions and safe conduct principles. 

 • Maintains the crematorium, equipment, and adjacent pet facilities. 

 • May deliver/release cremated remains to the appropriate funeral home or proper authority. 

 • Performs other duties as directed by management. 

 Requirements 

Must be willing to complete  Crematory Operator Certification supplied and funded by Doughty Funeral Home.

  • Certified Crematory Operator as required by state law ; valid driver’s license required if performing removals and transfers of bodies, pets, and delivering cremated remains and pet ashes. 

Passion for Pets

•  Capture paw prints and place ashes in urns.  

•  High school diploma or GED

• Basic computer skills. 

• Ability to maintain effective relationships with all affiliates and/or third parties. 

• Good communication skills. 

• High level of compassion and integrity.  

• Problem-solving skills.  

• Ability to multi-task and set priorities. 

• Detail-oriented. 

Preferred

 • Familiarity with the basic operation of industrial equipment and basic troubleshooting skills. 

 • At least 12 months in the funeral industry as an operator

Working Conditions 

• Regularly bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, sitting, repetitive motion, hand/wrist/finger motion 

• Regular lifting/moving 100+ lbs 

• Regularly be exposed to elevated noise levels. 

• Regularly be exposed to elevated heat levels.

 A local CPA firm is seeking a highly motivated Staff Accountant to join our team for full-time employment. 

Candidate will be responsible for: 

• Bank reconciliations, journal entries, general ledger review and reconciliations 

• Support month-end, quarterly, and year-end close efforts 

• Client support of payroll processing and filing 

• Preparation of business income tax returns after successful completion of first year experience 

Requirements:

 Local CPA firm is seeking a highly motivated bookkeeper / office manager to join our team for full-time employment. 

Responsibilities and Duties 

• Perform bookkeeping functions using QuickBooks 

• Process tax returns 

• Manage communications with clients on a daily basis 

• Perform all work in compliance with the firm’s policies and procedures 

• Perform office duties as required and assist other staff members as needed 

Requirements
