Part-Time Drone Assistant in Agriculture Setting
A cover crop seeding company doing some work here on the Eastern Shore is looking for some help this September as they seed cover crops via unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, aka drones). They need help with a “visual observer” that can also help load seed and fresh batteries onto the drone. They will pay $20/hour. English Peer Tutor at ESCC
Tutor students in specified discipline and encourage students to develop a systemic approach to studying that will serve them in many courses. Participate in professional development offerings. Meet with Academic Skills Advisor to plan appropriate academic support for students. Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed. Keep and maintain regular and accurate records of tutoring sessions using the appropriate forms. Reach out to students in the program and encourage them to come in for academic support. Perform other duties consistent with the position of Peer Tutor.

Evening Circulation Desk at ESCC Library
The Evening Circulation Desk position provides support to the library (LRC) and its patrons. Support hours are Monday-Thursday from 5pm-8pm. The LRC utilizes Ask a Librarian, which is supported 24×7. The position is responsible for monitoring the LRC. Other responsibilities are related to a physical presence in the facility to support patrons who use the study rooms, computers, and copiers, and wish to remove or return materials. The position will also collaborate and interact with college personnel (e.g. faculty) as needed to support research or instructional needs related to library resources.

Engagement Coordinator-UVA Coastal Research Center
UVA’s Coastal Research Center (a marine field station) is seeking an Engagement Coordinator to support events and initiatives that engage station users, regional communities, and connections between the two. The position is based on Virginia’s Eastern Shore. The coordinator will work closely with project leadership to cultivate an objective-driven suite of engagements and will organize planning, execution, and evaluation of programming. The position is part time (10-20 hours per week). Work hours are flexible and will fluctuate with initiatives.

Student Opportunities at Wallops Flight Facility
Opportunity Wallops Flight Facility: Environmental Engineer Technician-needed
Description: Wallops Flight Facility (WFF) is looking for a student to perform a variety of tasks as an Environmental Engineer Technician, including research of environmental topics, presenting research results, and conducting field work on and around the WFF Main Base, Mainland, and Island locations. Selected candidate will participate in numerous environmental programs, including Air Quality, Environmental Planning, Natural Resources, Regulated Waste, Storage Tanks, Restoration, and Water Programs. The field work will expose the student to summer conditions common to the Delmarva Peninsula (i.e., hazy, hot, humid, and buggy).
Tasks may include field verification, inspection, and mapping of equipment and processes; research and field investigation of projects in support of natural resources; performing emissions calculations for current and projected activities; analyzing compliance of water infrastructure and data with environmental regulations; developing and implementing new file directory management systems; and writing white papers or technical briefs.
Preferred Majors: Science, physics, civil or environmental engineering, chemistry
Skills: Basic computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint); GIS experience (geographic information systems, including ESRI ArcGIS suite); technical writing skills preferred
Opportunity Wallops Flight Facility: Precipitation Research and Validation-needed
Description: Provide support for the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Ground Validation (GV) program at NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility. The supported intern will assist NASA technicians and scientists deploy, maintain, collect, and analyze surface and remote-sensed precipitation measurements from rain gauges, disdrometers and weather radars. The work will be in direct support of the Wallops GPM Precipitation Research Facility located on the Wallops main base, as well as the surrounding Delmarva Peninsula. A research project will be selected after discussion and review with the NASA Mentor, which will allow the intern to use actual scientific data.
