There are 4 easy steps – from start to finish – in applying for financial aid.
Step 1
Applying for financial aid is an annual process, which should be completed every year on or as soon after OCTOBER 1 as possible. Filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the first step to finding out if you are eligible for financial aid. However, Virginians who are nonimmigrants, undocumented, have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status or are otherwise ineligible to file the FAFSA should complete the VASA (Virginia Alternative State Aid) Application to be considered for state financial aid.
For assistance with the FAFSA, VASA Application, or questions related to financial aid, please email financial_aid@es.vccs.edu.
If you are ready to submit your FAFSA application, please see below to Create an FSA ID and Gather Required Documents.
Make sure you indicate that you plan to attend:
- Eastern Shore Community College
- Title IV, Institution Code # 003748
Step 2
You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) either by email or by U.S. Mail. The SAR is NOT your financial aid offer but gives you basic information about your eligibility. Typically, you’ll be able to access your SAR within two weeks of filing your FAFSA form. Learn what to do if you didn’t receive your SAR within two weeks.
It is very important that you review the Student Aid Report for mistakes. If you need to make corrections, you can return to the FAFSA website to submit corrections.
Step 3
The ESCC Financial Aid Office will receive your SAR electronically, if you have completed an admissions application as a curricular student. Your SAR will be reviewed and you will receive a Missing Information Letter if additional information or documentation is needed to complete your financial aid file.
Step 4
Once your financial aid file is complete, you will be notified whether or not you are eligible to receive financial aid. This Financial Aid Award Notice will state the amount and types of aid you are being offered. The college will begin sending out these notifications during the first part of June.
