Checklist

Apply or re-apply at the Virginia Community College System Admissions Page.

  • Follow the initial steps, then select ESCC from the college list to complete your application.
  • Verify your identity. You will need access to a computer or mobile device that has a camera to provide a real-time photo of yourself (Liveness Check) and upload a photo ID (Driver’s License, Passport, ID Card, etc.).
  • Important: Take a screenshot or write down your Student ID number (EMPLID) and your assigned MyESCC username.
  • After submitting your application, check your email for an important email outlining your next steps.
  • Check your tuition rate. If you are deemed out-of-state, you will receive an email informing you of your status. If you feel that the determination was made in error, contact Student Services to see if you qualify for Domicile Reclassification Application and to request an appeal form.

With just one login, MyESCC (button on the top of the ESCC home page) gives you access to multiple applications in one portal. You will find Canvas, Navigate, student Gmail, bookstore, and the Student Information System (SIS), where you can access your financial aid information, make online payments and register for classes. Your ESCC Gmail account will not be available until you register for classes. Your Gmail is your MyESCC username followed by @email.vccs.edu

Before logging in, download a Multifactor Authentication Application, either Rapid Identity or Google Authenticator for individuals then follow the prompts when logging in.

Using your username, login to MyESCC

  • New Users: Claim your account by following the prompts on the screen.
  • Returning Users: Enter your username, then select the “Forgot Password” option to reset your password.

IMPORTANT: When you login to SIS, you will see the following WA5 hold on your account. This hold requires you to work with your advisor to determine your Math and English placement. It prohibits new students from self-enrolling. The hold will be lifted when you meet with your advisor.

If you are a new student, within 5 years of graduation, you do not have to take a placement survey.

If you are a returning student or GED graduate returning 6+ years, please complete this mandatory survey VCCS Direct Enrollment Survey.

If you have credits from AP, IB or CLEP exams, college credits from regionally accredited colleges or universities or industry credentials send in your official transcripts or documentation for credit evaluation.

If you have completed dual enrollment or college credits at another school in the Virginia Community College System, you do not need to submit an official transcript.

  • High School Transcripts: Bring in a hard copy or ask your guidance counselor to send them to studentservices@es.vccs.edu
  • General Education Degree (GED): Bring in a hard copy or ask your guidance counselor to send them to studentservices@es.vccs.edu
  • Foreign High School or College Transcripts: submit a hardcopy or email them to your advisor who will have them evaluated by a third-party service.
  • College Transcripts: Submit official transcripts to registrar@es.vccs.eduOfficial transcripts may be sent to ESCC electronically or by mail from the issuing institution or through Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse. Also, they may be delivered in person by the student but must be in a sealed envelope issued by the institution.
  • AP/CLEP or IB. Submit official scores from the College Board or International Baccalaureate to registrar@es.vccs.edu
  • Military Records: Submit your JST or Air Force transcripts in PDF format to registrar@es.vccs.edu and let your advisor know you have sent them.

Prior Learning: Got certifications? Send copies of your OSHA-10, BLS/First Aid cards or other certifications to your advisor. Discuss with your advisor how you may qualify for college credit via a letter from your employer confirming relevant work experience.

Financial aid is the key to many scholarship opportunities.

  • Option A: Complete the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid FAFSA. Don’t forget to save your PIN.
  • Option B: If you don’t qualify for FAFSA, you may qualify for Virginia Alternative Student Aid through the VASA Application.

You must have a FAFSA or VASA on file to be considered for scholarships. Apply for scholarships through our AwardSpring portal.

  • Download the Navigate 360 app. You will use this app to schedule an appointment with your advisor and for communication with ESCC staff and instructors.
  • Log into MyESCC. Select the SIS (Student Information Services) application and click the Academic Records and Progress tile. Select the Advisor tab on the left to identify your advisor.
  • Schedule in-person, zoom or phone appointments through the “Schedule Appointments in Navigate.”
  • If your advisor is not available, contact Student Services for assistance.

  • If you have your textbooks on the first day of class, you are more likely to get better grades and complete your courses. So be prepared! Order your books online through the Follett Bookstore tile in MyESCC, as soon as you receive a message letting you know the bookstore has opened.
  • Do not wait until you have activated a two-week trial to order your books.
  • Do not attempt to complete coursework using only a two-week trial.
  • Using Financial Aid to order your books?
    • First, complete the Bookstore Authorization by logging into MyESCC –SIS- Actions Items & Messages To Do
    • Check your ESCC Gmail for instructions on how to order your books using financial aid.
    • Don’t wait. If the deadline for using financial aid closes, you will have to pay for your books out-of-pocket.

The biggest mistake a new or returning college student can make is signing up for classes then not prioritizing academics. Attending college is a choice. Students are expected to know their class schedules, complete classwork on time, and communicate respectfully and effectively with instructors after the advisor hand-off. Excuses regarding work schedules, lack of childcare, lack of transportation or lack of technology are not valid reasons for failing to complete college classwork on time. College instructors are not obligated to extend deadlines or keep assignments open indefinitely. The expectation is that students will prioritize their academics, respect the opportunities before them and do their best.
