The forty-fifth annual commencement ceremony was held at Eastern Shore Community College at 4:00pm, Friday May 13th on the campus in Melfa.
ESCC awarded 143 post-secondary credentials which included Associate Degrees, Certificates and Career Studies Certificates, to our 2016 graduates.  The majors included, Administrative Assistant, Business Administration, Early Childhood Education, Electronics Technology, General Studies, Liberal Arts, Management, Science, Industrial Technology, Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing, Welding, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Long-Term Care Assistant and Medical Billing and Coding.

The ESCC Class of 2016 represents all areas of the Shore from Cape Charles to Exmore to Onancock, Saxis, Chincoteague and Tangier.  Some ESCC graduates are using the Guaranteed Admissions Agreement to transfer to ODU, UVA, VCU, Grand Canyon University, Virginia Wesleyan, and Regents University.

Members of the 2016 graduating class are also a part of Eastern Shore’s workforce and are employed at locations such as Ace Hardware, Hare Valley Head Start, Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital, NASA Wallops, Tysons Foods, and Mosher Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine.

The commencement address was given by Dr. William T. Greer, Jr., the third president of Virginia Wesleyan College in 1992, and also previous president of both Brevard College and Andrew College. Dr. Greer is also a member of the ESCC Foundation Board.  P. Bryan Smith, former Dean of Student Services, retired from Eastern Shore Community College, served as the Commencement Marshall.

Mr. Barry Neville, Assistant Professor of History, was announced as the 2015/16 recipient of the ESCC Faculty Award for Professional Excellence.  To be selected, the process requires submission of a portfolio by faculty members and a review by a committee composed of teaching faculty, HR and the VPASA.

Nicole Reyes was announced as the valedictorian of the Class of 2016, graduating summa cum laude with the highest GPA in the graduating class.

Enrollment for Fall 2016 classes is now underway at Eastern Shore Community College.  The last day to register is August 17th, with classes beginning on August 18th.  ESCC will also be launching new Saturday classes under an initiative called “Take 13”, where students can be enrolled full-time with a one day a week commitment, to better accommodate Monday through Friday work schedules.  You are urged to begin the application process as soon as possible to insure your desired classes and schedule for this fall.  Visit es.vccs.edu online or visit student services for help with enrollment, financial aid, and advising.
