Information for High School Students

Teresa Guy, Career Pathways Program Coordinator

Academic and Technical Preparation

Career Pathways are programs of study to assure strong academic and technical preparation providing students with critical learning and hands-on skills. Students who focus on a pathway acquire the skills necessary for entry into well-paid careers with high potential for rapid financial growth, increased levels of responsibility, and a high degree of personal satisfaction.

High School, College and Career Connections

Career Pathways provide a connection between high school and college and careers.  They combine academic and technical knowledge with skills that prepare students for employment in targeted industry sectors. These programs integrate academic and technical subjects, promote continuing education, and often lead to an industry-recognized credential.  Credit courses that are offered to fulfill specific workforce training needs often culminate in a career studies or other certificate or an A.A.S. degree.

Seamless curriculum programs are developed in cooperation with the local high schools and technical centers in the school divisions of Accomack and Northampton counties. Some classes are available as dual enrollment classes to high school students who qualify.
