DESCRIPTION:Artist Info and Registration Form\nESCC Winter Arts Festival is Saturday\, February 28th! \nSaturday\, February 28th is the latest edition of the Eastern Shore Community College Winter Arts Festival\, from 10am-2pm\, in the college’s Academic Building on campus in Melfa.  In exciting news\, this year’s event will host the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Mobile Exhibit from Richmond\, which will debut its latest theme on the Shore\, entitled “Virginia as America: Navigating Life\, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. \nIn 1953\, VMFA became one of the first museums in the world to have an Artmobile. For four decades\, as many as four Artmobiles toured 59 exhibitions and served more than 2.5 million Virginians. Due to conservation concerns and the fragility of traveling works of art\, VMFA replaced the program in the early 1990s with a Statewide Partners program to deepen partnerships with schools\, community centers\, and museums around the state. \nRenamed VMFA on the Road\, the traveling museum relaunched in October 2018 as a state-of-the-art\, climate-controlled trailer equipped with Wi-Fi and interactive components that meet 21st-century expectations. In the fall of 2023\, the museum acquired a new trailer with even more space for art and visitors. \nThis year’s new exhibit that will debut at ESCC on February 28th\, explores the American ideal that was first expressed in the Declaration of Independence. The evocative phrase “Life\, Liberty\, and the pursuit of Happiness” founded a nation on a promise of “inalienable” rights\, a promise that has endured for 250 years. \nFrom the collection at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts\, 14 works of art- paintings\, prints\, and decorative objects- provide an alternative lens by which to understand our past\, encouraging us to consider the hopes and challenges of those founding principles and their persistent relevance for realizing a “more perfect union.” \nOrganized by VMFA\, this exhibition is in recognition of VA250\, the Commonwealth of Virginia’s commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution\, the Revolutionary War\, and the Independence of the United States. The exhibition is curated by Dr. Susan J. Rawles\, VMFA’s Elizabeth Locke Associate Curator of American Decorative Arts. \nThe unit will be located at the entrance of the ESCC Academic Building on campus in Melfa\, where both floors will be featuring a wide variety of local and regional artists and crafters displaying their work.  In addition\, a special room has been designated to host displaced artists from the Historic Onancock School Community and Cultural Center\, where a January fire caused damage.  An information station will be available on how to support their repair efforts at the school. \nThe event will feature live music in the ESCC Student Lounge with talented local vocalist Jackie Faison and her band\, along with food\, baked goods and refreshments on sale by the ESCC Phi Theta Kappa Chapter\, and local favorite Kookie Momster. \nThere is no admission fee for the ESCC Winter Arts Festival\, and it is presented to the public with support by the ESCC Foundation. This is a rain or shine event.

Choose one of the following prompts to craft a compelling piece:\n1.      Your YES! Belief Statement: What is a belief that drives you forward? Write a poem\, short story\, or essay that embodies your YES!—your personal philosophy\, motivation\, or guiding principle.\n2.     A Lesson in Inclusivity: Describe a moment on campus when you learned about inclusivity. How did this experience shape your perspective\, challenge you\, or inspire you to foster a more welcoming environment?\n3.     Being an ESCC Student: What does it truly mean to be a student at ESCC? DESCRIPTION:ESCC’s 2026 Commencement Newsletter\nIf you have not already applied for graduation\, follow these directions: \nHow to Apply for Graduation\n\nFirst\, see your advisor and they will work with you in completing an initial review of your graduation readiness. You must certify on the graduation application that you have consulted with your advisor.\nNext\, if it is determined that you will be ready to graduate by the upcoming semester\, submit an online graduation application by the deadline.\n\nTo access the online Graduation Application\n\nGo to the ESCC website by clicking HERE\nClick on “MyESCC”\nEnter your username and password\nClick on VCCS SIS: Student Information System\nClick on the “Academic Records and Progress” tile\, then select Apply for Graduation. (This is at the bottom left on your screen)\nClick on the “Proceed with Making Application” button and follow the prompts\, answer the questions\, and click “I agree” and then “Submit.”\n\nOnce your application is received\, the college will officially review your academic record\, and the registrar will send you an email informing you of your graduation status. \nCommencement 2026\nCongratulations on completing your program—now it is time to stand and be recognized! Commencement will be held on the campus of Your Eastern Shore Community College on Wednesday\, May 13 at 5:00 p.m. The event will be outdoors with no tent. The rain date is Thursday\, May 14th\, at 5:00 p.m. \nGuests\nYou may invite up to 3 guests to the ceremony. All guests aged 3 and above need a ticket to the event. You can pick tickets up from Student Services Monday-Thursday\, April 20-April 23\, 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Friday\, April 24 from 8:30am-12:00pm. Please plan to attend.  \nCaps & Gowns (Regalia)\nYou must wear the ceremonial cap and gown regalia to participate in commencement. The cost is $36.50 plus tax. All regalia will be shipped to ESCC on May 2nd.  You will not have to pay shipping costs. Graduates who earned Certificates of Completion and/or Career Studies Certificates report to room 148. Graduates who earned an Associate Degree report to room 147.  Graduates who earned a High School Equivalency Credential (GED/NEDP) report to room 140 (classroom in the Adult Education suite). \nPhotos\nA professional photographer will take a photo of each graduate during the ceremony. If you want a professional photo taken in front of the ESCC backdrop\, you should arrive by 3:00 p.m. inside the main entrance to the academic building. Order forms for the photos will be in the diploma cover you receive. Guests may take pictures from their seats but cannot be in the aisles due to safety hazards. \nCeremonial Tips for Graduates\n\nWear business clothes (no jeans) with comfortable shoes. You will be walking on uneven ground and up steps to the stage.\nWear your tassel towards the front on the right side of your cap.\nRemain standing until all graduates are at their seats.\nBe respectful of commencement speakers.\nGet your name card from the ESCC staff in the room. Do not lose it! You must have it ready to hand to Professor Zodun\, who will announce your name.\nOnce Professor Zodun announces your name\, you will receive your diploma from Dr. Minus with your left hand and shake his hand with your right hand. You will then shake hands with the ESCC Advisory Board Chair and exit the stage.\nYour diploma cover will contain directions for ordering pictures taken by the photographer. You will be notified by text when your Academic degrees and/or certificate are available. This does not apply to Workforce students.
