RICHMOND, Va. — The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) honored 15 exemplary career and technical education (CTE) programs and partnerships during the agencies’ annual Creating Excellence Awards program in Richmond on June 13.

“Partnerships between public schools, community colleges and local employers provide students with transformative education opportunities and real-word experiences,” Superintendent of Public Instruction James Lane said. “I congratulate the educators and private and public sector partners who created these outstanding career and technical education partnerships and programs.”

“CTE programs provide relevant learning experiences and create deeper learning for students,” Secretary of Education Atif Qarni said. “These award-winning programs and partnerships help students acquire and refine the knowledge, skills, experiences, and attributes that prepare them for college and career success.”

The VCCS Postsecondary CTE State Awards were presented in three categories, including the Program Award – Internship Program for Electronics Technology; Electricity; Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning; and Welding, nominated by Eastern Shore Community College.
