Melfa, VA-The Wallops Higher Education Partnership (WHEP) will hold two Education Resource Fairs to provide information about college services available in Delmarva.  The first fair will be held Saturday, July 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Chincoteague Bay Field Station located at 34001 Mill Dam Road.  A second fair will be held Wednesday, July 16, from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the  Northrup – Grumman Building at 7414 Atlantic Road.
The Wallops Higher Education Partnership is a recently-formed consortium of Delmarva two and four-year colleges and universities including Eastern Shore Community College, Old Dominion University, Wilmington University and Wor-Wic Community College.  This spring, a WHEP-administered survey of the Coast Guard, Navy and other contractors indicated a significant interest in having face-to-face classes as well as online instruction on Wallops Island.

Dr. Linda Glover, Eastern Shore Community College President, explains, “We recognize the importance of the continued growth of the Wallops Island area with the Orbital International Space Station Resupply mission, the research on unmanned aerial vehicles, and the recent report of interest in conducting manned spaceflight missions from Wallops Space Flight Facility to the economic health of the Delmarva Peninsula.  With the prospect of rapid growth of the Wallops/Chincoteague area, this consortium of educational institutions can cooperatively provide resources that will most effectively meet the higher educational needs of the Wallops/Chincoteague area.  Both the Navy Aegis Command and the U.S. Coast Guard have already expressed strong support for this concept.”
