Post 9-11 GI Bill Education

 Melfa, VA –Seven veterans are currently taking 79 college credits from Eastern Shore Community College under the new Post 9-11 GI Bill.  They are taking courses leading to degrees in Electronics Technology, Business Management, Computer Aided Drafting and Design, and General Studies.  In addition, six veterans are enrolled under other GI Bills in programs leading to degrees in Medical Assistant, Registered Nursing, Science, Information Systems Technology, Computer-Aided Drafting and Design, and General Studies. 

Under the new Post 9-11 GI Bill, tuition for courses taken at ESCC is paid by the Veterans Administration directly to the College.  In addition, each veteran receives an annual allowance for books of $41.67 per credit up to 24 credits and a monthly living allowance.  The veteran must have served on active duty since September 11, 2001, and must use the benefit 15 years from their last period of active duty that lasted at least 90 days.  They have 36 months to complete their educational program.
