Description

Eastern Shore Community College (ESCC) invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean: Workforce Development Services.  Located on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in Melfa, ESCC is a comprehensive two-year college in the Virginia Community College System (VCCS) and is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Serving a rural two-county population of 45,000, ESCC is the smallest of the 23 VCCS colleges; however, the college is very community focused and is expanding non-credit program offerings designed to meet the workforce needs of local employers. This position is a 12-month administrative faculty appointment, effective July 1, 2017.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be able to manage diverse and complex Workforce programs, interact effectively with all internal and external constituencies of the college, and have a proven track record as a team leader including a demonstrated ability to advance the workforce development goals of a comprehensive community college.

The Dean provides leadership and oversight of all non-credit training at the college and serves as the College’s liaison with the local workforce development boards, chambers, and other economic development officials in the service area. Reporting directly to the President for the conduct, coordination and quality of the college’s workforce related functions, including Adult Education, Community Service, Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA), and facility rentals, the Dean serves on the President’s Cabinet as a member of the senior management team, which has responsibility for overall college planning, budgeting, staffing, organization, and direction. Additionally, the Dean serves as the college liaison to the WDS unit of the VCCS. The Dean coordinates activities targeting local workforce development interests with the VP of Academic and Student Affairs, as well as other stakeholders, to fulfill the mission of the institution. Salary

$65,963; actual salary based on qualifications and experience; plus excellent benefits package.

Required Qualifications

Earned Master’s degree from an accredited institution.
Prior supervisor experience.
Proven leadership/management skills.
Commitment to faculty and staff professional development.
Experience developing, implementing and managing unit budgets.
Ability to communicate effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

Credentialed as a Workforce Development professional.
Prior supervisor experience in an academic environment.
Collaborative leadership style characterized by excellent communication skills and positive interpersonal relations. Experience and demonstrated success in strategic planning, team building and workforce development initiatives.
A thorough understanding of and commitment to the mission of the community college.
