Withdrawal From All Classes

If you are a student who is receiving a Pell Grant, SEOG, or CSAP grant and you officially withdraw from all classes OR unofficially withdraw (stop attending all classes without completing the official withdrawal process) after the “Withdraw with Refund Date” but not beyond the “Withdraw Without Penalty Date”, the college must determine how much of the grant assistance you have earned prior to your complete withdrawal from this period of enrollment.

You may be required to refund funds that were not earned.

Our review of your “earned “ assistance will result in one of three situations:

  • You have been disbursed exactly the amount of financial aid assistance which you had earned as of the date of your withdrawal. No additional action is required.
  • You have received more financial aid assistance than you had earned as of the date you withdrew. In this case you must repay these over-disbursed funds. You will receive a letter from ESCC within 30 days from your withdrawal date stating this situation.

You must take one of these two actions:

    • During the next 45 days from the date of the letter, pay ESCC the overpayment in full.

      OR

    • During the next 45 days from the date of the letter, sign a repayment agreement with the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.

If you do not take either of these two required actions within the forty-five days, you will lose your financial aid eligibility and your name will be forwarded to the U.S. Department of Education Collections which could negatively impact your credit-worthiness.

  • You have earned more financial aid assistance than we had disbursed to you prior to your withdrawal. The college will contact you by letter within 30 days of your withdrawal asking if you wish to accept or decline all or part of the undisbursed “earned” financial aid assistance.

You will have 14 days from the date of the letter to respond. If the college receives a timely response, we will disburse the requested funds within 90 days of your official withdrawal. If you do not respond within that required time, no additional “earned” assistance will be disbursed.
For more complete details on the rules and the refund calculation formula, a copy of the federal regulations which govern the refund of Title IV monies is available in the Financial Aid Office.
