Financial Aid The Application Process - Step 1
To apply for federal and state financial aid, each year you complete a single application, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), which can be obtained from the Eastern Shore Community College (ESCC) Financial Aid Office or local high school guidance offices.
You are strongly encouraged, however, to complete the FAFSA online by visiting the link below. You will find that the process is much quicker and more error-free. If you complete a FAFSA electronically, in a week or so you will receive a Student Aid Report either via email or in the postal mail.
If you complete a paper FAFSA, you will receive the Student Aid Report in three to four weeks.

Review the Student Aid Report for mistakes. If you need to make corrections, you will be informed how to submit your corrections.

The ESCC Financial Aid Office will receive your Student Aid Report electronically, check to see if you have been accepted into a qualified curriculum and will alert you if additional information is needed to complete your financial aid file.

Once your financial aid file is complete, you will be notified whether or not you are eligible to receive financial aid. The Financial Aid Award Letter will state the amount and types of aid you are being offered. The college will begin sending out these notifications beginning on or about June 1.
The Financial Aid Award Letter tells you how much financial aid that you are being awarded and lists the program(s) from which these monies will come. The program names are abbreviated on the Award Letter.The programs are: - Pell
Pell Grant Program - a federal grant program for students enrolled full-time down to less-than-half-time.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant - a federal grant program for students with exceptional need who enroll at least half- time. - CSAP
College Scholarship Assistance Program - Virginia grant for students enrolled at least half-time.
- COMA
Commonwealth Award - Virginia grant program for students enrolled at least half-time.
- VGAP
Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program - Virginia grant for Virginia high school graduates with at least a 2.5 grade point average.
- PTAP
Part-Time Tuition Assistance Program - Virginia grant for students enrolled in 3 to 5 credits.
- Work-Study
Federal Work-Study Program - Federal work-study program for students enrolled at least half-time.
